I was supposed to stay for 3 nights at this hotel but I did not complete my stay. I was staying at room 407 and was working on my presentation when I saw a very small bug crawling in my pillow (I don’t see very well, so I couldn’t identify it). I killed it and hoped it was not a bed bug. I had a presentation in the next morning and I was too tired to go through the process of complaining at the moment. In the next morning I found spots of my own blood in my bed sheet. I went to the lobby and showed the pictures of the dead bug and the blood spots. The person working at the reception said the it was “just a flea.” Just a flea? Is this supposed to be OK? I searched the mattress for more bugs and besides dirt and lots of sesame seeds (how did they get there at the mattress’ cover??? Why they never vacuumed the mattress???), I did not find more bugs. I left for the conference and just returned in the evening. By then, the conference organizers had talked to the hotel management and they offered to move me to another room. I was exhausted, I had only one more night in Istanbul and it was just a nightmare to have to go through this at that point. As I arrived at the lobby, I talked to the staff guy and the owner of the hotel who happened to be there by chance. Basically, both of them seemed to disbelieve what I was telling them. They just kept on saying “we are offering you another room, what else can we do?” while I was telling them about the hassle I would have to go through when I arrive home and have to keep my suitcase with all my things completely closed for 4 weeks, until the living cycle of these bugs finishes. They were looking at me as I was a crazy woman. One of them was even holding a half smile in his face, as he was enjoying to watch my stress. I felt DEEPLY offended. They thought I was lying and hoping for some sort of discount (the conference was paying for my stay, so there was no point for me to expect any discount). After their attitude, I had to leave this hotel. By that time, nobody apologized for the situation causing so much stress to my stay (the lobby guy eventually apologized later on - the one with a half smile). By the way, when I went to pack, I found my room MUCH cleaner, as it was never in the previous days I stayed there (why not keep this standard always???). I must say that the room was extremely small and I hit my head at the very small TV hanging on the wall every time I went from one side of the bed to reach the window, the bathroom was also extremely small, the room was dirty, my allergies just exploded there, the Internet was weak, the air conditioner was noisy, things were broken (piping of the shower, the wardrobe hinge hurt my hand when I needed to hang clothes next to it...), and the breakfast was horrible.... bad coffee, very little fruit, mostly fat stuff.... bad fake juices from a machine and the breakfast room is in the underground.... A hotel with a suitable location for having the experience of shopping, getting around and enjoy Turkish cuisine easily in the heart of Istanbul. The breakfast fast was ok, the room was clean and neat but very very noisy. Only tiredness of long walks during the day caused to fall asleep in noisy atmosphere of hotel. The price n high season was fair and affordable too.
